Birse Build wins deal to build B&Q HQ
Birse Build has sealed an £11m contract to build the new
corporate headquarters for B&Q at Chandlers Ford in Hampshire.
The job will involve the construction of two linked office
buildings with completion in July 2004.
Amec sells shares in Spie Batignolles
Amec has sold its majority share in Spie Batignolles, its French
regional construction business, to a management buy-out team. Amec
retains a minority interest in the firm.
Green Mac directors pass safety test

McCarthy & Stone chairman resigns
John McCarthy has resigned as chairman of McCarthy & Stone, the
retirement home business he founded 40 years ago. He launched an
unsuccessful bid in June to buy back the company and was planning
to hand it to his sons.
Berkeley chief exec in £1.2m award debate
A confrontation looms between Tony Pidgley, chief executive of
housebuilder Berkeley, and its major shareholder over his
retrospective award of £1.2m under an incentive scheme dating
back to 2000.
Ballast Manchester wins £15m contracts
Ballast's Manchester office has picked up five contracts worth more
than £15m. The largest is the £4.1m deal to construct a
108-apartment development in Ludgate Hill for David McLean
Homes.
Crispin & Borst bags £3m extension job
Vinci subsidiary Crispin & Borst has won two jobs worth
£4.5m, led by the £3m contract to extend Queen Mary
University of London's School of Medicine and Dentistry in
Whitechapel.
Kiely Brothers employee death off site
The Kiely Brothers Tar-Drives employee killed two weeks ago (CJ 6
August) was not killed on site, but when a car collided with his
vehicle as it was being driven back to the company's depot.
