German firm Lurgi is gearing up to start work on a giant £100m waste incinerator project in Kent.
Under a turnkey deal, Lurgi will carry out both the process engineering and the construction.
Work on the Allington Quarry site is due to start later this year now that the Waste Recycling Group, which is promoting the project, has finally got the vital Integrated Pollution and Prevention Control Permit from the Environment Agency to allow the scheme to go ahead.
The giant waste-to-energy plant will be capable of incinerating up to 500,000t of waste a year and producing 34 Megawatts of electricity per hour.
A visitor centre is also proposed on the site aimed at educating people on the importance of recycling.
