Ucatt to grill contractors on Holyrood project
Ucatt has been invited back to grill contractors over working
conditions on Bovis Lend Lease's £375m Holyrood Parliament
building project.
Following a meeting with Bovis last Wednesday, it was agreed that
the union would be allowed to interview directors of Mivan, the
company accused by the union of paying workers well below the
Working Rule Agreement rate of £7.30-an-hour.
At a previous meeting union officials were only allowed to question
staff from human resources over the concerns.
Ucatt has also been given permission to interview contractors
alleged to be working illegally on CIS 4. These include Rolland
Decorators and Ultimate Finishing Systems.
"Bovis seem to be placing the concerns higher up the ladder as one
of its head of operations attended the meeting," said a union
spokesman. "We look forward to carry out further questioning in the
next few weeks and that we can get to the bottom of the
matter."
The union has also called for a meeting with George Reid, the
presiding officer who is heading up an inquiry into the Holyrood
project, to voice its concerns.
