Formans-Hire awarded city centre hospital contract

Foremans-Hire, the hire division of Foremans-RBS, UK supplier of pre-owned modular buildings, has won a £1.6m contract to provide a city centre hospital with vital interim ward accomodation.

The two 28-bed wards will provide Hull Royal Infirmary with additional bed capacity to deal with the expected increase in demand during the winter months and to provide a decanting facility during the refurbishment of wards at nearby Castle Hill Hospital at Cottingham.

Foremans is providing a two-storey building that will be in place this autumn at the front of the hospital and on site for 18 months.

The building will be linked to the main hospital via a specially constructed enclosed link corridor situated at ground level. A tight deadline means the project has to be finished in just two and a half months as completion is scheduled for mid November.

It is anticipated that the first of the 52 modules will be craned into position from the beginning of October.

David Johnson, managing director of Foremans said: "The flexibility given by the modular system means the wards will be virtually finished and fitted out by the time they are installed on site, reducing the disruption to the hospital and enabling us to keep to the tight deadline."
