Contractors reconsider £7m radioactive MoD job
Contractors are having second thoughts about pitching for a
specialist nuclear project at Faslane, Scotland.
The scheme, valued at £7m-plus, is to construct a radioactive
processing plant for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
CJ understands Byzak, one of six outfits that prequalified for the
deal, has turned its back on the scheme. And sources say that
Mowlem "is reviewing its position".
One insider said: "This is a very specialised contract and
sometimes contractors don't realise the full implications."
He also said Mowlem had entered a partnership with a specialist in
the nuclear field that had now ditched the scheme. "I understand
Mowlem is trying to find a replacement," he said.
The four firms still in the chase are RJ McLeod, Balfour Beatty,
Nuttall and Kvaerner.
