Linford fills orderbook with £30m contracts
Linford has picked up a slew of contracts worth £30m. The largest jobs include a £5.2m refurbishment of Stowe School in Buckinghamshire and a £5.1m deal to fit-out 114 apartments at Broadway Plaza in Birmingham.

Fitzpatrick gets to be beside the seaside
Fitzpatrick has picked up its third contract with Southend-on-Sea Council; a £5.2m deal to redevelop the Pier Hill area. The 47-week contract includes a landscaped stepped terrace to the sea front.

Swimming pool work keeps Allenbuild busy
Allenbuild has picked up two swimming pool contracts worth £4m. The contractor will build a pool for Hymers College in Hull for £2.4m and one at Nidderdale High School in North Yorkshire for £1.6m.

CITB honours 250,000th health and safety pass
The 250,000th Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) health and safety test pass has been reached. Dino March, a HBG Construction operative, was presented with a special certificate, a pair of safety boots and £250 of CITB books.

Wates makes Employer of the Year shortlist
Wates was highly commended in the Employer of the Year category at the 2003 National Business Awards. Wates was the only construction firm to make the UK top 10 list. The category was judged on HR strategy and results.

Stephen Lee to head Fairhurst Brum office
Fairhurst and Partners, the civil and structural engineering consultancy, opened an office in Birmingham last week. The office is run by technical director Stephen Lee.

Billington takes over Tube Engineering
Billington Structures has bought specialist tubular fabricator Tube Engineering of Bristol. There will be no job losses. The new division will trade as Tubecon.
