£25m London school project out to tender

The Archdiocese of Westminster Education Service is seeking a contractor to create a £25m learning village in Tower Hamlets, east London.

The project involves the phased construction of 13,500m2 of educational facilities on an occupied site at the Bishop Challoner Catholic Collegiate School on Lukin Street.

The work will be carried out over a four-year period under a fixed price JCT format contract. Funding is being provided by the Archdiocese and the Department for Education and Skills.

Construction will be carried out in two major phases in 2004-2005 and 2006-2007 together with the adaptation of an existing building to provide a sixth form centre.

The work will require careful planning and co-ordination to meet the specific completion dates and to avoid impacting on the adjacent Bishop Challoner school.

Firms have until 4 November to express interest in the scheme.
