Lack of communication caused King's Cross derailment

A breakdown in communication between Network Rail and maintenance contractor Jarvis was the cause of last month's train derailment at King's Cross, a report into the incident is expected to reveal on Thursday.

The document, compiled by the two firms, will reveal that both parties had relied on "verbal agreements" to carry out overnight maintenance work on the track rather than keeping detailed records on the section of track which caused the London to Glasgow train to leave its tracks.

Jarvis has already admitted that a section of rail was missing after maintenance work had been carried out.

The contractor has reportedly suspended an engineering supervisor after the incident.
