Liverpool Interserve staff vote for strike

TGWU members employed by Interserve on its contract to renovate and repair 21,000 council homes in Liverpool have voted eight to one in favour of industrial action.

The vote followed Interserve's decision to cut its workforce after Liverpool City Council slashed the contractor's budget from £28m to £22m.

TGWU national organiser Jack Dromey said: "Our members have voted by a margin of eight to one to resist compulsory redundancies. Interserve should now shelve the sack for loyal and long-serving building workers."

Interserve head of corporate communications Giles Scott said: "This result was unexpected." He revealed that UNISON members have voted three to one against strike action.
