Backhoe production at Terex's assembly plant in Coventry has
equalled the output of the old Manchester factory, Tony Gardner
newly-promoted vice president of Terex Compact Equipment revealed.
It is matching Manchester's 14.5 units a day and output is set to
rise to between 16 and 20 units per day in 2004, said Gardner.
Gardner said Terex is increasing its backhoe market share worldwide
- with growth in the USA "well into double figures". He added that
Benford dumpers are also having a record year and have experienced
an order backlog of 60 to 70 machines over a three-month period.
"Rather than batch production, we build a little of everything
every day and that ensures customers are not caught waiting six
weeks for the next batch to be produced." Agricultural telehandlers
will move in to the new assembly plant this autumn once the peak
demand has passed.
Gardner also said first half sales of Schaeff excavators are three
times higher than in the whole of 2001 and he expects sales to top
650 units this year.
According to Gardner there will be a number of launches in 2004
across the Terex range. These will represent "value for money - but
that does not necessarily mean a low cost price".
