Standard specification on JCB's 3CX Contractor now includes a Home
Office-approved electronic immobiliser. In addition, JCB Insurance
Services is offering a 30% discount on premiums for the
model.
The Plantguard immobiliser overcomes the biggest security problem
of a single key fitting all machines. Within the Plantguard key is
an electronic chip which contains a unique personal identification
number - meaning only an authorised operator can start the
machine's engine.
Estimates by the Plant Theft Action Group (PTAG) put the loss of
construction machinery at £100m per year. PTAG chairman Kevin
Clancy said: "We are delighted to see JCB taking this positive step
forward to help reduce crime in the sector."
JCB selected the Contractor for the immobiliser as the model is
aimed at owner-operators. The immobiliser is an option on other 3CX
and 4CX machines.
The company is looking at ways to adapt the system to meet the
needs of the plant hirer who favour the "one key fits all"
approach.
