Automatic option for Unimogs

Mercedes-Benz has added an electronic AutomaticShift transmission option on Unimog U400 and U500 all-terrain implement carriers and U3000 to U5000 high-mobility chassis.
The system is similar to that in the Actros road-going trucks, automatically controlling clutch engagement/disengagement when stopping, as well as the entire sequence when changing gear.
Carrying a price premium of £1,980, the system is said to have advantages in terms of less load on the drive train and reduced clutch wear, maintenance costs and fuel consumption.
