As part of the restructuring and new corporate identity adopted by
Alfred McAlpine (see News), its plant arm formerly known as AMPL
has become McAlpine Asset Management.
George Crompton, managing director of the plant division, said
there will be very little change to the business, but there is a
greater opportunity to cross sell to other members of the McAlpine
group.
This year the plant business will turn-over almost £50m, well
ahead of budget, partly because of the good weather. The fleet
stands at approximately 350 heavy machines, most of which come
under the Facilities Management section working on projects such as
the Birmingham Northern Relief Road (BNRR), upgrading the A1 and in
quarries.
Crompton said: "Our strategy remains minimum risk, long-term work
with blue-chip companies. We are looking at securing long-term
contracts as the basis of our business and see projects like the
BNRR and A1 upgrades as icing on the cake."
Control of Fleet Services, which provides 3,500 vehicles (cars,
vans and trucks) throughout McAlpine, remains with Crompton. He
said the company is implementing a new computer system to handle up
to 10,000 vehicles and is looking to offer fleet management to
external companies.
