Birse Rail's commitment to in-house, direct labour working has led the company to relocate to a new management centre at Kings Bromley in Staffordshire.
The move to new premises is essential for Birse Rail to meet growing demand for its services by customers that expect its contractors to undertake a large proportion of work through direct employees.
Business manager Ken Mackenzie has set up the new unit to act as the 'nerve centre' for operational control of the teams and to provide in-house training facilities for operatives and staff members.
Already, plans are being explored to expand the training resource to include permanent way, signalling and electrification courses.
New vehicles and equipment have also been procured for the teams
working throughout the country on Network Rail's Structures
Framework Contracts, West Coast Route Modernisation and Fixed
Telecoms Network.
