Skanska starts on Amsterdam metro project
Cementation Foundations Skan-ska has scooped a £26m deal that
marks the start of the £625m North-South Metro line project in
Amsterdam, Holland.
In joint venture with local firm Franki Geotechnics, Skanska will
construct diaphragm wall foundations at three city centre
sites.
The deal involves 70,000m2 of retaining wall spanning 1.7km and to
a thickness of 1.2m and depth of 45m. Skanska will work under a
form of partnering incorporating unit rates and target costs, with
the client, the City of Amsterdam, taking responsibility for
risk.
The work is complicated by the narrow streets and the city's canal
network with the water table just 1m below ground.
