LCR Highways, part of the Ringway Group, has won a new highways
maintenance contract with Lincolnshire County Council, potentially
worth up to £120m.
LCR, the present incumbent, headed off rival pitches from
Raynesway, Carillion, McAlpine and Accord, to win the new
deal.
It will run for three years, bringing £20m a year into LCR's
coffers. The contract also offers the possibility of three
additional one-year options.
The council awarded its new contract on a 60% price and 40% quality
basis, with LCR emerging as the top contractor on both counts.
The contract is designed to bridge the gap between the way in which
term maintenance deals are traditionally awarded and the route the
council decides to go down in future.
This could be on a PFI basis - the council has already submitted
its business case to the Department for Transport. But other routes
may also be possible and no decision has yet been made.
As well as highway maintenance work, LCR's contract will also
involve installing streetlighting across the county.
