Circumstances call a halt to work on Ballast's PFI sites

Construction work on the £45m East Lothian PFI Schools scheme was due to commence last weekend, but was thwarted by Ballast's problems, writes Laura Hailstone.
Ballast is part of the Innovate consortium that won the project for the redevelopment of six secondary schools and the construction of a community learning centre and a swimming pool.
Jill Mackay at East Lothian Council told CJ: "We have been told that Innovate will decide the best way forward for the project. Whether that means keeping Ballast on or replacing it I don't know. Construction work was due to start at the weekend as this week is half term, but obviously that work hasn't started now. Innovate has promised us it will get work restarted quite quickly."

Ballast's involvement on a £120m PFI scheme to improve 27 schools in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has come to a halt.
Tower Hamlets council said: "Independent assessors have visited schools sites to ensure safety where building work has temporarily halted."
