Interserve faces further strike action
TGWU officials are due to meet today (Wednesday) to propose further
strikes over Interserve's plan to slash jobs on its housing
contract in Liverpool.
Some 130 TGWU members employed by Interserve on its contract to
renovate and repair 21,000 council homes in Liverpool went on
strike for the first time last Friday.
A TGWU spokesman said: "Full-time union officers are likely to
endorse a further day of industrial action this Friday, followed by
a two-day strike the following week and a further three-day strike
the week after that.
"This sends out a very strong message to Interserve that our
members will not tolerate the number of job losses
anticipated."
Interserve's head of corporate communications Giles Scott said the
contractor wanted to meet the TGWU yesterday (Tuesday), but the
union did not return its calls.
"We want to talk as we don't feel that strike action, either
threatened or actual, will help to resolve things," he added.
