The "Best Building in Scotland" winner set to be announced

The winner of the "Best Building in Scotland" title is to be announced today (Thursday) following a competition run by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

Five entries have been included on the shortlist and the winner will receive £25,000, one of the world's largest prizes for a building award.

The shortlist of buildings range from a £30m hotel in the centre of Glasgow to a ferry shelter on the island of Tiree and a pair of mews homes in Edinburgh.

Building projects of all sizes and types were eligible for entry but they must demonstrate innovation, design excellence and competition.

Other factors for the judges were the detailing of materials, sustainable design, technical ability and aesthetic appeal.

The award will be presented at a ceremony in the Point Conference Centre in Edinburgh.
