Efficient management of construction supply chains is a key
factor in giving firms a competitive edge over their rivals. It not
only adds value to a company's business, but provides a better deal
for clients. Despite this construction lags behind many other
industries in managing its supply chains.
In recognition of this Contract Journal has teamed up with the
Building Research Establishment (BRE) to provide a one-day
conference on this important topic entitled: Secrets of the Supply
Chain.
To be held at the BRE, Garston, near Watford on 18 November, it
features a number of speakers from firms at the cutting edge of
supply chain and logistics management. The line up for the day

integrated supply chains to deliver new and refurbished healthcare
facilities.
· Charles Lever, Director of Building Services at Taylor
Woodrow Construction, on how the company has established strategic
partnering frameworks with specialist contractors.
· Jaz Vilkhu, National Operations Manager, Marshalls, shows
how early involvement of product suppliers in projects can add
value for clients and contractors.
· Paul Olney, Director of Sales - Government Contracts,
Jewson, outlines how partnering agreements with major customers can
reduce costs within the supply chain.
· Ben Bowsher, Executive Director, UK Certification Authority
for Re-inforcing Steels, shows how the use of established
technologies, in the form of bar coding, is increasing the
efficiency of delivering and installing re-bar at the massive T5
project at Heathrow Airport.
· Karl Smith, Programme Manager - UK Lean Aerospace Initiative
at The Society of British Aerospace Manufacturers, gives an insight
into how the aerospace industry is improving its complex supply
chains.
