TT and Balfour install under-rail crossings

TT UK has been working with Balfour Beatty installing under-rail crossings as part of the re-signalling and cable routing on the West Coast Mainline upgrade.
A trial site was identified at Bourne End in Buckinghamshire where 12 PE cable ducts 160mm in diameter had to be installed at two locations approximately 800m apart.
TT engineers pilot bored with a 110mm Grundomat soil displacement hammer and installed an 85mm PVC sacrificial liner, which was subsequently cut and burst using a Grundoburst 400G.
This increased the pilot bore to 210mm in diameter to accommodate a 160mm MDPE SDR26 cable duct.
