The Scottish version of the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT)
producing standard contract documentation is back in business as a
limited company after a year-long review.
The reshaping of the Scottish Building Contract Committee (SBCC)
has been led by Scottish Building, the Royal Institution of
Chartered Surveyors and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in
Scotland.
Representatives of the specialist contractors and consulting
engineers have joined leaders of these bodies on a slimmed-down
board of directors.
Scottish Building chief executive Sid Patten said: "The SBCC needed
a shake-up and to become more business-like in its production of
documents. Decision making had become long-winded.
"We reviewed how it works, especially in relation to the JCT. The
revamped body has been set up as a limited company. It is about
kilting JCT forms as well as creating special standard contract
documentation for the construction industry in Scotland."
Chairman of the new board is architect Mike Towers. A broad-based
consultative committee will advise the board on industry
requirements, while a drafting committee will be responsible for
drawing up documentation.
An application has been made for representation on the JCT.
