Lex Vehicle Leasing has published the Rough Guide to Vans, that
highlights van drivers as being most at risk of accidents because
of their high annual mileages, unlegislated driving hours and the
stressful multi-drop urban delivery.
"Some companies focus more on getting their goods delivered rather
than the well-being of their drivers and vehicles," said Jon
Walden, managing director of Lex Vehicle Leasing.
Lex wants to ensure that company directors include van drivers in
any duty of care conversations and the publication suggests ways to
reduce risks among the van fraternity.
This will not only reduce accidents, but it will also lower running
costs and vehicle off-the-road times for operators, said Walden.
Suggestions include the fitting of hands-free phone kits and
compiling a driver's handbook detailing recommended safety
practices such as driving hours, operating vehicle-mounted
equipment and the driver's responsibility to keep the vehicle in
good order.
