Construction output rose 11.2% in the third quarter


Construction output was up 11.2% in the third quarter to £23.9bn, according to the latest data from the Department of Trade & Industry.

Eight of the 10 sectors increased year-on-year, but two of the largest sectors experienced drop-offs: infrastructure fell 12% from £2bn to £1.8bn; and private commercial slipped 1.5% to £3.7bn.

Private housing and other public both increased 27% to £3.4bn and £3.7bn respectively. Public housing repair, maintenance and improvement was up 23% to just shy of £2bn.

In the year to date total output is ahead 10% from £61.4bn to £67.5bn.
