DTI fund follow-up study on timber KPIs

TRADA Technology has been awarded a further £49,000 by the Department of Trade and Industry, under the Partners in Innovation Programme, towards follow-up research on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the timber industry.

The Business Solutions Group of TRADA Technology, in partnership with the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA), the Timber Trade Federation, Builders Merchants Federation, British Woodworking Federation and the Trussed Rafter Association, is now setting up network groups to test performance against KPIs identified in the first phase of the research and to gather new data for further development.

Philip Becker, who will lead the project for TRADA Technology, said: "This is very much a call for engagement."

He continued: "Previous work has identified that customer satisfaction is the single most important measure for all industry sectors, although productivity and accident management were deemed important by manufacturing companies. A further objective in this second phase will be to identify specific KPIs for merchants and distributors, drawing on work conducted by the Construction Products Association."

TRADA will carry out a marketing campaign in January 2004 to encourage companies to participate.

"Collection of data is crucial, and a fundamental theme throughout this project is to ensure that all information is held in the strictest of confidence," Becker stressed.
