Push-pull piling builds bridge

Dawson Construction Plant's push-pull piling technology has enabled the construction of a unique bridge in Milton Keynes. The design used 22m long, 750mm square box section piles with 14m below ground level. The tops are cast directly into the bridge deck.
Each of the eight piles is made of four Hoesch Larssen 43 sheets fitted together and each section was pushed in sequentially with the device reacting against the other three sections. This creates a vibration-less piling system where the only noise generation is from the excavator and a power pack. This piling method minimised disturbance for nearby residents.
The cost of building the bridge was an estimated 30% lower than traditional construction methods.
