Brumwell set to head up skills register

UCATT general secretary George Brumwell is expected to succeed Tony Merricks as chairman of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) when it holds its annual general meeting at the end of January.
It is anticipated that current deputy chairman, TGWU national secretary Bob Blackman, will step down at the same time to make way for an employer nominee in that post.
Merricks told CJ: "The post is subject to an election. Nominations have not yet closed. At the moment there are two individuals in the running. We will know the result on 22 January."
George Brumwell is due to retire from his UCATT post in October 2004.
