Terex Benford launches new rigid chassis site dumper

Terex Benford has launched an AWS (all-wheel steer) rigid chassis site dumper claiming the machine represents the most significant development for dumpers in the last 30 years.

"Not since the introduction of the articulated dumper in the early 70s has there been such an important design change," said Peter Barfield, Terex Benford marketing and promotions manager.

Available as PT6 (power tip) and PS6 (power steer) 4WS variants, the unit forms part of the company's on-going strategy to develop, produce and distribute, not only quality machines, but also the best capital investment available, commented John Rawnsley, Terex Benford UK sales director.

The rigid chassis is said to offer better operator access with no crush zones and greater stability. The machine also features a turning radius of 7.7m, compared to 12m for the company's articulated dumpers and an improved ground clearance of 520mm.

Terex claims to have 50% of the UK dumper market and has been developing the 4WS rigid chassis unit for the past two years. During the last year the machine has been vigorously put through its paces at the MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) at Nuneaton.

According to test results, the magnitude of the operator is reduced on a 4WS machine by 50% as the operator's position is connected to the skip and this acts as a damper. "On an articulated machine the operator's position is connected to the rear axle and consequently more vibration is experienced," said Barfield.

· Tony Gardner, vice president of compact equipment said the Benford, Fermec and Schaeff names will cease to be used within the next 18 months, with all of these products being badged as Terex Compact Equipment.
