McAlpine Business Services has secured a seven year contract at Midland Quarry Products' (MQP) Old and New Cliffe Hill Quarries to load and haul four million tonnes of blasted granite per annum.
This major outsourcing contract is the first in the UK to be sanctioned by Tarmac, co-owners of MQP, since its take-over by Anglo American, the mining and natural resources giant, in 1999.
The contract was awarded to McAlpine on its capability to configure the optimum fleet of equipment to deliver the significant tonnage for the duration of the contract life, in the face of tough competition from rival bidders.
The fleet is first being deployed to process blasted granite in
the New Cliffe Hill site, moving to also cover processing in the
Old Cliffe Hill quarry by mid 2004, by which time MQP will have
completed the installation of a new primary crusher in the second
site.
McAlpine's plant equipment is being engaged to load and haul the
several million tonnes of material to each site's primary crushers
until reserves are exhausted at New Cliffe Hill.
