The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has today (Wednesday) announced that NEVIS Water had been awarded the Preferred Bidder status for Project Aquatrine - Package B - the final of three contracts to be awarded.
Under the terms of the 25-year contract, NEVIS Water will provide water and wastewater services to over 550 MOD sites in Scotland, with the contract expected to go live in November 2004 following a pre-commencement period.
Included in the Package B area are several large MOD bases such as RAF Lossiemouth, RAF Kinloss and HMNB Clyde.
Project Aquatrine is one of the most significant Public Private Partnership projects in the MOD and the largest Private Finance Initiative water project in Great Britain.
It will transfer the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the Department's water and wastewater assets and infrastructure in GB to private sector providers and enable the MOD to better focus its resources and expertise in areas of military competence.
