Plumbers this week became the latest trade group to see the bulk of its operatives top the £10 per hour minimum rate of pay.
With effect from today, Monday, 5 January, the basic hourly rate for an advanced plumber and gas service engineer rose by 6% to £10.21. The new basic rate for a technical plumber is £11.34. And the rate for a trained plumber is £8.75.
Under the national plumbing Joint Industry Board (JIB) agreement, rates will rise a further 6% from 3 January, 2005. Basic rates will then be: advanced plumber £10.82; technical plumber £12.02; and trained plumber £9.28.
The JIB has also officially signed up to the Major Projects
Agreement for mechanical and electrical services. This is expected
to be applied initially at Heathrow's Terminal 5 project.
