Amec wins £7m hospital D&B contract

Amec has been awarded a £7m design and build contract for a new hospital by Chiltern Securities at Savernake Hospital, Marlborough, for Kennet and North Wiltshire NHS Primary Care Trust.

The 3,200m2 two-storey building will feature 35 intermediate care beds, 12 beds for older people with mental illness and outpatient facilities. Completion is set for June 2005.

The new hospital will connect two existing 19th century buildings, The Sir Giles Gilbert Scott Building (which will be converted into an administrative and training area) and a day hospital.

The new hospital will be constructed largely in steel and glass, forming a contrast to the listed building which adjoins it.
