Wates wins £48m worth of new work

Wates has secured new contract wins worth a total of £48m in Leeds and London.

In Leeds the Wates-led QED consortium has been chosen as preferred bidder for a £32m PFI project to design, build, finance and operate 10 primary schools for Leeds City Council.

Work is due to begin on the schools this spring with completion scheduled by September 2005. The contract includes the provision of maintenance and support services for 25 years.

QED also includes investor Innisfree, FM provider HBS and architect Watson Batty.

The London contract is a £16.7m deal to provide a three-level call centre building at Bow Traffic Garage for the Metropolitan Police.

The client selected Wates after a rigorous two-stage tendering process.
