MPs question Bouygues’ Home Office site policy

More than 50 MPs have signed a House of Commons Early Day Motion (EDM) that questions the industrial relations policy of Bouygues, in particular, and other top construction companies.

The EDM says there are "worrying implications" for the health, safety and welfare of site operatives.
The motion has been tabled by Michael Clapham, MP. It springs mainly from complaints by UCATT that union officials have been denied access to the site of the new Home Office development in central London where Bouygues is the main contractor.

It also expresses concern that UCATT "is experiencing difficulties in gaining access to major construction sites across the country".

The union has voiced special concern at the reported high proportion of overseas labour on the Home Office site.
