Sheffield City Council is to appoint four general contractors to carry out £1bn worth of housing improvement and refurbishment work over a seven-year period.
The council is looking to set up long-term partnering agreements with a minimum of four contractors to bring its housing stock up to a decent standard by 2010.
Work is likely to be let on a target cost/agreed maximum price style of contract based on the New Engineering Contract form.
Construction work will carried out on both multi-dwelling buildings and individual houses, along with environmental improvement works and refurbishment work..
Up to 10 contractors will be invited to bid for the work. Preliminary awards are expected in July with final award in October 2004. Work is likely to start in November 2004.
Contractors have until 16 February to express interest in the work.
