DTI will not publish industry problems consultation

The Department of Trade & Industry's (DTI) consultation exercise on the problems facing the construction industry (CJ 17 September 2003) has received a good response, but the findings are not going to be published.

In August last year, construction minister Nigel Griffiths wrote to assorted construction bodies and associations asking for their comments and suggestions on how to turn the UK construction industry into a world leader.

A spokeswoman for the minister told CJ: "There has been a good response to the minister's letter of 15 August calling on umbrella bodies and trade associations to appraise him about the needs and concerns of the industry, the details of which are being collated for presentation to the minister. There are no plans to publish these."

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Office's Regulatory Impact Unit is also investigating the construction industry.
A Cabinet office spokeswoman said: "The team will only be looking at some aspects of the industry - not the industry as a whole - and as yet those aspects have not been finalised."
