£41m York Barbican job up for grabs
At least two contractors will share the spoils of a £41m
scheme to redevelop the Barbican site
in York.
It is understood that Barbican Venture, the special-purpose company
of local entrepreneurs promoting the scheme, is eyeing several
firms as the project's potential contractors. One firm is likely to
tackle the leisure elements and one the housing - others may also
get a share.
An industry insider said: "I would be very surprised if local firm
Shepherd didn't figure among the list of possibles."
The development includes leisure facilities, a 125-bedroom hotel,
240 apartments and a car park for 270 vehicles.
The Barbican auditorium would also get a £2.5m facelift under
the scheme.
Work on site is expected to start in the summer, with completion
scheduled for two years.
