SPOA to issue updates in free handbook
The Scottish Plant Owners Association (SPOA) has reviewed and
updated its conditions of hire for all equipment, and has published
the relevant information in a free handbook.
According to John Kerr, SPOA immediate past president, the new
conditions reflect changes in legislation and the development of
new working practices. "Although our conditions are based on
Scottish law, the new terms are now very similar to the rest of the
UK," he said.
With an increase in consumers hiring plant for their own projects,
SPOA has introduced a special set of conditions.
"We've separated consumer and business-to-business conditions,"
Kerr said. "There was a need for this as more people are hiring
small plant for landscaping their gardens and they need to be
advised on training and health and safety matters."
Kerr said the SPOA conditions now better reflect its membership,
which includes dealers, contractors, agricultural workers, and
plant and tool hirers.
