The Department for Transport has approved the £145m extension of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Woolwich Arsenal.
The 2.5km project will be a continuation of the DLR's £140m extension to London City Airport, currently under construction by Amec.
The extension will start at King George V station at North Woolwich and then pass under the River Thames in bored tunnels to a new station at Woolwich Arsenal. The DLR station will provide an interchange with main line rail services.
An advert for the design, construction and financing of the extension was placed in the OJEU last December.
