Ahead of its official launch at Bauma, Coffey Construction of
County Galway has taken delivery of the UK and Ireland's first Allu
PF (pressure feeder) for mass soil stabilisation.
The PF is a tracked-mounted unit that operates as part of a
complete Allu stabilisation system. It provides a continuous supply
of binder agent, via a hose, to the Power Mix fitted to an
excavator.
The company claims this speeds up the processing of large areas as
the excavator operator has remote control of the PF, allowing it to
follow the excavator around site.
The Allu system, which is being used on the high-speed rail project
between Helsinki and Lahti in Finland, is said to be the ideal
solution for ground stabilisation of swampy and boggy
terrain.
According to David Maclynn, Allu's UK and Ireland export and sales
manager, the system will prove to be popular, especially in
Ireland, as it is cost-effective and creates less spoil than
traditional methods.
"Normal stabilisation involves creating vertical or rectangular
reinforced zones, but with mass stabilisation the binder is mixed
uniformly over an even area. This is ideal for the sort of peat and
boggy areas found in Ireland," Maclynn said.
