The Highways Agency has selected Nuttall as preferred bidder for a £15m upgrading scheme in East Anglia.
The early contractor involvement project centres on dualling the A47 between Blofield and North Burlingham in Norfolk. Birse, Jackson, Mowlem and local firm May Gurney had also pitched for the job.
Construction work will not begin until 2005. The scheme involves constructing a dual two-lane carriageway about 3km long, along the line of the existing single carriageway road.
The project is part of a series of measures, announced 18 months ago by the then transport minister John Spellar, to upgrade the A47 between Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
The scheme has been incorporated into the government's targeted
programme of improvements.
