Multiplex Construction UK has hit back at press reports earlier
today (Thursday) which insisted that the new Wembley Stadium's
135m-high arch has been declared unsafe to raise into
position.
It had been claimed that project bosses who carried out safety
checks revealed that more work was needed on the complex steel
structure.
But, responding to the claims Ashley Muldoon project director
for Multiplex, who is overseeing the design and build for the
Wembley Stadium project, said: "There is no truth in the suggestion
that there are structural problems with the construction of Wembley
Stadium.
"Extensive quality assurance checks are carried out on a regular
basis. These are procedural and on occasion, some rectification
work is required.
"The project is five weeks ahead of schedule and the arch itself is still scheduled to be lifted in the spring - well ahead of the original summer schedule - hardly signalling that there are problems," he said.
