Wembley crane accident leaves two men injured
Two men suffered injuries at Wembley Stadium on Monday after they
were involved in an incident on a crane.
A spokesman for main contractor Multiplex said: "I can confirm that
a crane operated by HTC allegedly malfunctioned, causing a manrider
being used on the project to suddenly lose height. The manrider
fell approximately 4m and stopped [but did not hit the
ground]."
Two tower cranes were immediately taken out of action.
The TGWU said early reports indicated that the two men, who were
working for subcontractor Cleveland Bridge, were rushed to
hospital; one with a broken leg, and the other with a broken ankle
and a back injury.
n Unconfirmed Health & Safety Executive figures show that there
have been 67 fatalities in construction since 1 April 2003. The
