Union Railways invites tenders for £46m to £70m Temple Mills depot


Union Railways (North) is inviting contractors to pitch for a range of work worth between £46m and £70m to construct the Temple Mills train depot. 

The depot in east London will provide stabling, service and maintenance facilities for Eurostar trains. The depot is currently being designed to accommodate eight roads, but this may be expanded to 12.

The work has been broken down into eight lots, though firms may bid for one, several or all of them. Firms will be expected to design, supply, install and commission the various work elements. The work contracts are as follows:

  • The track work is worth between £12m and £16m.
  • The overhead line equipment contract is valued at £8m to £12m.
  • The traction power supply will cost £11m to £16m.
  • Signalling works are worth £8.5m to £11m.
  • Depot protection system will be approximately £1m.
  • Depot control system and central clock system is worth £500,000.
  • Security systems will cost around £2m.
  • Communications cabling and distribution is worth between £3m and £5m.

Work on the depot is expected to being in September 2004.
