Fall arrest devices manufacturer Dunn and Cowe has issued a 'white
paper' on sloping roof safety in response to the latest statistics
from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and the targets set by
the government's Revitalising Health & Safety campaign.
Development of Safety Anchorages for Sloping Roofs aims to
summarise relevant legislation and guidelines and analyse the
various cost-effective solutions available for increasing safety
for those working on sloping roofs. "The use of fall arrest devices
can dramatically cut the risk of falls from a height," said Dunn
and Cowe's managing director Derek Cowe.
"We hope the paper will educate and inform readers about this issue
and help lead to a reduction in the number of these needless
fatalities."
HSE statistics show that over the past five years falls of more
than 2m have accounted for the deaths of 190 people in the
construction industry, almost half of all construction
fatalities.
