Ballast/Laing wins schools PFI
A joint venture between Ballast and Laing Homes has emerged as
preferred bidder for a north London private finance schools deal,
valued at £13m.
Under the terms of the partnering deal, for the London Borough of
Islington, two schools will be relocated and rebuilt. In exchange,
the schools' sites will be made available for housing
developments.
The Harborough and Rosemary Special Schools will be rebuilt and
span 2,000m3 and 5,100m3 respectively.
The relocation is expected to take place during the 2005/06
academic year.
Three other outfits also pitched for the scheme: Taylor Woodrow;
Neilcott; and Harris Wharf Developments, with the latter understood
to have Higgins on board as contractor partner.
