Gleeson consortium preferred developer for South Tyneside project

A Gleeson-led consortium has been appointed preferred developer for the construction of the new Boldon School and Leisure Centre under the Private Finance Initiative by South Tyneside Council.

The consortium comprises Gleeson, Barclays Private Equity, architect Waring and Netts, structural and mechanical engineer White Young Green, and education advisor EC Harris.

The consortium is now in the final stages of negotiation for the £17.5m contract in preparation for financial close.

Boldon School, a mixed secondary school, shares a site with the existing Community Centre on the south side of New Road, next to the River Don.

The Gleeson consortium will build a new 11,500m² school behind the community facility. The existing school facilities on the adjacent site will be demolished when the new school building is completed in late 2005.
