North Midland Construction enjoyed rapid growth last year in two
specific areas: its building subsidiary North Midland Building and
Nomenca, the group's M&E wing.
NMC Group announced a record turnover (12 months to 31 December
2003) of £82m (£78m). And chairman and chief executive
Robert Moyle is budgeting for a further 20% rise in turnover in the
current year to break through the £100m barrier.
The latest pre-tax profit of £2.9m (£2.8m) would have
been higher but NMC took a hit on one of its civil engineering
contracts.
NMC has three operating divisions: civil engineering, highways and
utilities.
"For civil engineering, the water industry continues to be the
focus of its activities," said Moyle, who expected to gain further
market share during the water sector's up-coming AMP4 renewal
programme period.
The group is based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, with regional
offices in Plymouth, Bristol, Kidderminster and Warrington. "We're
not in Scotland but, ultimately, we will look at establishing a
base there," said Moyle.
"The group's turnover is not a barrier to getting work with major
clients such as the Ministry of Defence or the Highways Agency," he
added. "We work on a stand-alone basis with water clients, while
for the HA we work within the AmScott consortium.
"The greatest success stories of the year have been the rapid
growth of NMC's building subsidiary, North Midland Building and
Nomenca, both of which achieved record levels of sales and
profits."
North Midland Building is working on its biggest project for almost
600 student flats in Lincoln, valued at £13m.
