SAFed launches safety access passport
Engineering inspection industry trade association the Safety
Assessment Federation (SAFed) launched its health and safety
passport scheme last week.
It claimed that although a number of passport schemes already
exist, this has led to a lack of reciprocity between the various
schemes. SAFed said this has created problems for workplace duty
holders and engineer surveyors with the potential for the latter
needing to hold a number of different safety passports to carry out
their inspection activities.
However, the 'access all workplaces' safety passport for engineer
surveyors employed by SAFed member companies will change that.
SAFed technical director Richard Morgan said: "Workplace duty
holders can have full confidence that any engineer surveyor holding
a passport has the appropriate health and safety knowledge to
undertake their designated duties in a safe manner."
Before engineer surveyors are given a passport, they will have to
undergo extensive training aimed at providing health and safety
awareness applicable to both their clients' industries and the
range of inspection activities they undertake.
