Alfred McAlpine's appeal against the High Court ruling that it cannot drop its first name will not be heard until July at the earliest.
A spokesman said it could even be "the end of the year" before the case is concluded.
Immediately after the court case ended an Alfred McAlpine spokesman had confirmed that the company's Board was disappointed by certain elements of the judgment.
He added: "It awaits clarification at a subsequent hearing and will be seeking permission to appeal at that hearing.
The Board considers that it would be inappropriate to comment further, pending the outcome of that hearing."
